If the insurance company decides not to total your older model car then you need to look for repair shops to have your car fixed. Your insurance company will typically make an assessment as to which car parts you will need to repair your car, and in some cases, they will even recommend or demand you use a particular repair shop.
It is extremely common for a car to break down and need a part replaced. Most car owners have already experienced this, and those who haven't, will do so at some point in the future. Many car owners are also aware that cheap auto parts are available if one knows where to look for them. However, this is where most people's understanding of cheap auto parts available at discount prices ends. Either most people end up paying premium prices for the parts, or trust that the cheap used car part being installed by the mechanic is indeed the best deal available. But is this true?
The internet makes things much easier nowadays with instant quotes and the ability to buy anything including car parts online 365 days a year 24 hours a day. With many products it is quiet easy as there may be just ion version of what you are buying, but when it comes to car parts it can be a totally different story. There is this assumption that by buying a particular make and model of car, it will have the same set of parts that that entire model would have. The truth is this is juts not true. First of all the time when your car is registered, that normally dictates the year of the car, may not be the time it was manufactured. It is very possible that your car has been standing for 6 months on an airfield somewhere, before it was eventually sold and registered at new. There can be the same car, registered at the same time but was built 4 months later. This ultimately means that there could be a difference in the parts that make up the car.
Once you know which part needs to be replaced, consider the make, model and year of your car. While all of the basic parts of a car may be the same, the size and shape of each part will be different, as parts vary between makes and models. For example, the brake pads made for a 1997 Ford Mustang will not fit a 2000 Toyota Corolla.
However, if you are not a purist and aren't looking for some sort of certification that the car is completely original, then you will have a lot more options that will still give your car the look you want of a fully restored classic without all the hassle of digging deep and long to find original parts.
